Teacher Development: Teaching with Precision —The Architecture of Standing Poses with Cathie Ryder
Friday, July 24
7:15-9:15pm • Livestream
What may appear to be separate standing poses are, in the Iyengar method, deeply interconnected studies in alignment, directionality, and intelligent action.
In this workshop, we’ll explore the architectural relationships between Virabhadrasana I, Utthita Trikonasana, and Utthita Parsvakonasana, examining how these forms emerge from shared principles of spinal organization, balanced extension, and directional movement.
Using the precision of Iyengar language, participants will refine how they:
Give clear, effective verbal instruction
Apply oppositional actions to illuminate joint and muscular engagement
Connect alignment cues to anatomical intelligence
Teach with greater clarity, confidence, and depth
The session also revisits foundational standing work — Tadasana, Vrksasana, and Utkatasana — as expressions of vertical intelligence: neutrality, balance, and effort under load.
Through guided practice, small-group teaching, and live feedback, teachers will strengthen both their conceptual understanding and their real-time instructional skill.
Ideal for teachers and teachers-in-training looking to deepen their command of standing poses and refine the language that brings them to life.
Cost: $40
