Our Story
Who We Are
This Boston yoga studio began as a group of friends teaching in a parish hall, all graduates of senior American yoga teachers. More than ten years ago, we decided to create a space dedicated to teaching and learning. Those senior faculty plus many of Boston’s leading yogis naturally gravitated towards the uncompromising clarity and authenticity of that vision. It is the quality and cadence of these relationships, a vibrant internal dialogue, the desire to evolve intelligently, and our commitment to our core values that define who we are.
Classes
Whether you are a complete beginner or a seasoned practitioner, Down Under School of Yoga has a class for you. We invite you to explore a variety of yoga and fitness classes, from gentle, meditative ones like Relax & Renew to powerful, physically demanding styles including Heated Flow and HIIT.

Please arrive at least 5 minutes prior to the start of class so you can check in at the front desk, and no earlier than 30 minutes before class starts. We allow late arrivals up to 15 minutes AFTER the start of class. Students who arrive after the 15 minute grace period will be asked to join another class to prevent potential injury (Ahimsa: non-violence) and reduce disruption to others (Asteya: non-stealing). We are more than happy to change your reservation to another in studio or livestream class. Thank you for your understanding.

All Livestream classes at Down Under stream via Zoom.
Once registered for a class, you will receive an email from Down Under one hour before class containing a link to join. If you register within the hour of class starting, you will receive the link instantly.
When you click the link, it will automatically open Zoom. You may join without video to practice with privacy, or join with video so your teacher can see you.
We recommend joining the class no earlier than 5 minutes before start time.

Mat, water, comfortable athletic clothes, and an open mind! Our studios have a no shoe policy. This applies to all of our classes. Shoes are required in the Life Alive cafe area.
-
For safety reasons, we do recommend practicing on a yoga mat. The sticky texture will reduce the risk of slipping and sliding. Plus, the cushion of a mat can make the floor more comfortable for seated and kneeling postures.
It’s not necessary to have official yoga props at home for most live-streamed classes. Big, solid textbooks can be used for blocks, towels can be used as blankets, and couch cushions can be used as bolsters.
