Course Overview:
-
Ayurveda is one of the world’s oldest systems of natural healing, originating in India over 5,000 years ago. You’ll gain an understanding of Ayurveda’s connection to the Vedic traditions, its holistic approach to health, and its guiding principle of maintaining balance between mind, body, and spirit. While somewhat different challenges face humanity in each age, these universal laws and teachings transcend the specifics of the problem and offer consistent, reliable, timeless ingredients for the solution.
-
Delve into the Ayurvedic understanding of the natural world and its profound influence on health and well-being. You’ll explore the five elements, and the twenty qualities, which form the foundation of all living and non-living matter. You’ll learn how these elements manifest in both the environment and the human body, shaping everything from physical structure to mental patterns. This knowledge will help you grasp the dynamic relationships between nature, the body, and mind, and how maintaining harmony with these elements promotes health.
-
Explore the concept of Doshas, the three fundamental energies (Vata, Pitta, and Kapha) that govern physiological and psychological processes. You’ll learn how to identify your unique constitution, which reflects the balance of Doshas at birth, and how it influences your health, personality, and lifestyle. Additionally, you’ll examine the concept of imbalanced states, understanding how lifestyle, diet, and environment can disrupt your natural constitution, leading to physical and emotional disharmony. Practical tools for restoring balance through diet, routine, and self-care will be introduced.
-
Learn about Dinacharya (daily routines) and Ritucharya (seasonal routines), which are practices for maintaining balance throughout the day and seasons. Topics include recommended wake-up times, meal schedules, sleep patterns, and seasonal dietary adjustments based on your Dosha. You’ll gain practical tools for incorporating self-care rituals, such as oil massage (Abhyanga), detoxification, and mindfulness practices, to maintain physical and mental harmony throughout the changing cycles of nature.
-
You’ll learn how Ayurveda tailors yoga practices to individual constitutions (Doshas) and how specific asanas, pranayama (breathing techniques), and meditation practices can support the balance of Vata, Pitta, and Kapha energies. You’ll also discover how integrating Ayurvedic principles into your yoga routine can enhance physical health, mental clarity, and emotional stability, creating a personalized practice just for you.
-
Dive into the essential life forces of Prana (vital energy), Tejas (inner radiance and metabolic fire), and Ojas (core vitality and immunity) that sustain health and well-being according to Ayurveda. You’ll learn how these subtle energies operate in the body and mind and how they influence your vitality, mental clarity, and emotional resilience.
-
You’ll gain a deep understanding of the Ayurvedic approach to digestion and nutrition, which views Agni (digestive fire) as the cornerstone of health. You’ll learn how to optimize your digestive system by choosing foods and meal routines that align with your unique dosha and the natural rhythms of the day and seasons. The concepts of food as medicine, the importance of mindful eating, and the role of herbs and spices in enhancing digestion will be explored.
-
You’ll explore Ayurveda’s comprehensive understanding of the body’s internal structure through the concepts of Dhatus (tissues), Srotas (channels), and Malas (bodily wastes). You’ll learn how the seven Dhatus (such as blood, muscle, and bone) support physical and mental functions, and how the Srotas serve as pathways for nutrients, energy, and waste elimination. Additionally, you’ll discover the role of proper elimination of Malas (urine, feces, and sweat) in maintaining health and preventing disease.
