Development
Born from our teachers’ desire to not only share their expertise, but to continue learning alongside one another our, new Teacher Development workshops are an ongoing collection of themed professional learning experiences designed to deepen your knowledge, sharpen your skills, and expand your confidence as a teacher—or dedicated practitioner.
June 28 | Livestream
Twists ask for precision, patience, and intelligent sequencing — and teaching them well requires an understanding of both their structural complexity and transformative potential.
In this Teacher Development workshop, Ann Appavoo offers a focused exploration of how twists are defined, practiced, and taught within the Iyengar method. Designed for yoga teachers and teachers-in-training, this session examines the mechanics of spinal rotation, the foundational principles that support safe and effective twisting, and the art of sequencing poses to prepare the body intelligently.
July 24 | Livestream
What may appear to be separate standing poses are, in the Iyengar method, deeply interconnected studies in alignment, directionality, and intelligent action.
In this workshop, we’ll explore the architectural relationships between Virabhadrasana I, Utthita Trikonasana, and Utthita Parsvakonasana, examining how these forms emerge from shared principles of spinal organization, balanced extension, and directional movement.
August 30 | Livestream
In this Teacher Development workshop, we’ll explore the artistry and logic of props as tools for alignment, accessibility, and longevity. Together we’ll work with blocks, belts, blankets, bolsters, chairs, and the wall to uncover the architecture of common yoga postures - refining actions, clarifying structure, and creating access to poses that may otherwise feel out of reach.
October 2 | Porter Square
This workshop offers an opportunity to explore yoga beyond physical postures — as a living practice rooted in awareness, inquiry, and intentional action.
Through guided discussion, reflection, breath awareness, and simple meditative practices, we’ll engage with foundational yogic ideas such as presence, discipline, compassion, and the relationship between mind, body, and attention.
