Teacher Development: Principles of Instruction — Standing Poses with Rosie Richardson
Sunday, March 29
1:15-4:30pm • Livestream
How we speak shapes how students move. Clear, intentional instruction helps students organize their bodies, understand what matters in a pose, and develop independence in their practice.
In this Teacher Development session, Certified Iyengar Teacher Rosie Richardson focuses on the craft of teaching standing poses through precise language and thoughtful sequencing. The emphasis is not on doing more poses, but on learning how to communicate primary actions clearly, simply, and effectively.
Through demonstration, guided exercises, and practice teaching, you’ll explore how to:
Use concise, action-based language students can see and feel
Build instruction from the foundation of the pose
Differentiate the language of demonstration from the language of teaching
Sequence actions progressively to support learning and integration
Avoid common teaching habits such as over-instructing or giving unfocused cueing
We’ll also examine how clear structure and repetition help students assimilate information, build confidence, and carry understanding from one standing pose to the next.
Designed for yoga teachers and teachers-in-training, this session offers practical tools to refine your communication, strengthen your teaching presence, and bring greater clarity and intention to your classes.
All traditions and teaching backgrounds are welcome.
Cost: $40
