What you will learn:

  • Learn the foundation, physical alignment & relationship between all of the major yoga postures. As well as how to create a sustainable practice through the use of proper alignment & muscle engagement. How poses work together in “families” & how to adjust postures with the use of props to create a more accessible practice.

  • Through a cumulative, strategic & experiential approach students will be given the tools to start communicating their experience of the practice effectively as teachers. Building communication from the ground up, learning the importance of effective action based cueing, the use of body language & vocal intonation as well as managing the room & what it means to hold the space of being a teacher.

  • Our training deliberately offers students two tracks to learn from: two types of sequencing to leave them feeling prepared to teach either. Students will learn intentional sequencing which focuses on learning how to create a well-crafted practice that follows an arc, building up warmth & awareness for a certain peak pose or family of postures that is taught in an alignment focused & intelligent manner.

Our second track will teach students a set sequence which allows for a reliable flow to a class where instead of the physical postures changing, the dialogue, philosophy & delivery gets to be a focal point.

  • Principles of anatomy, the skeletomuscular system, joint movement will be explored in an experiential way through practice & teaching. As well as how anatomy & physiology relate to not only the alignment of yoga postures, but also to the principles of sequencing.

  • Utilize critical thinking to assess postures, understand injuries, work with different kinds of bodies & begin to understand how to teach to different learning styles through the use of props, mirroring & how to with consent offer safe physical adjustments when/if warranted.

  • Deepen your understanding of ancient texts like the Yoga Sutras & the Bhagavad Gita & how asana is just a piece of the full picture of yoga. Begin to learn sanskrit, appreciating yoga’s roots. Explore yoga philosophy & begin to contextualize how these philosophical principles can be applied to the present.

  • Examine different lineages of yoga including Vinyasa Flow, Ashtanga, & Restorative. Learn the context of the practice & its history. Go beyond asana & explore the other limbs of yoga including Pranayama & Meditation.

  • Learn practical steps on how to get started as a yoga teacher & how to navigate the business of yoga in order to begin a practical & successful career as a yoga teacher. Explore the ethics of being in the seat of a teacher in the context of the present day.

  • Our school is committed to creating diverse & inclusive spaces. Explore the cultural dynamics of the practice space & start to create an awareness of how your identity, implicit biases, & actions contribute to inclusion within the yoga space.
