Teacher Development: Teaching with Precision — Iyengar Language & Intelligent Cueing with Cathie Ryder
Friday, February 27
7:15-9:15pm • Livestream
Great teaching begins with clear seeing — and language that helps students see themselves.
This Teacher Development session is designed for yoga teachers and teachers-in-training who want to refine their verbal instruction, teach with greater precision, and communicate alignment in a way that supports safety, accessibility, and deeper understanding across a wide range of bodies.
Using the Iyengar tradition as a framework, we’ll explore how thoughtful language can guide self-observation, intelligent action, and functional movement. The evening centers on Tadasana as the root of all standing work, and how its principles evolve into balance and dynamic effort through Vrksasana and Utkatasana — three expressions of one foundational pose.
Together, we’ll explore:
How to use clear, specific language to support alignment, stability, and spinal lift
Oppositional actions and how they relate to joint organization and muscular engagement
Connecting alignment cues to anatomical intelligence — the “why” behind the words
Teaching steadiness (sthira) and ease (sukha) through instruction
Applying the principles of Tadasana to all standing poses
The session includes practice, small-group teaching, and supportive feedback, offering space to experiment, refine your voice, and build confidence in real time.
Open to all yoga teachers and trainees. This session is part of Down Under’s ongoing Teacher Development series and is intended for those actively teaching or preparing to teach.
Cost: $40
