Insight Society is a ten-week mindfulness-based mental health program designed to address symptoms of anxiety and depression within a group setting. This program combines short-term group psychotherapy with yogic practices to provide a somatic and dynamic approach to healing.
Participants will gain insights into their relational, behavioral, and cognitive patterns during this structured ten-week intensive. Throughout the program, you will receive psychoeducation on anxiety and depression, learn about the neuroscience behind our suffering, gently explore trauma and its impact on our psyche, and discover effective strategies for understanding and reducing symptoms of distress.
Group therapy is particularly beneficial as it creates a supportive environment where participants can share their experiences and concerns with others who can offer empathy, connection, and diverse perspectives. This shared experience fosters a sense of community and belonging, helping to reduce the feelings of isolation often associated with anxiety and depression.
Led by licensed psychotherapist and hot power yoga instructor Sarah Schermerhorn, LMHC, this group will help you better understand yourself and the patterns that contribute to difficulties in daily life. It also offers the opportunity to cultivate practices that enhance your mood and sense of self.
Each session will include a 30-minute yoga or mindfulness practice, followed by a 60-minute group therapy discussion. A breakdown of each week's theme and coping strategy is listed below:
Week 1 (October 1): Psychoeducation on Anxiety & Depression
Week 2 (October 8): How Yoga & Meditation Work
