Exploring the Backbend Through Anatomy with Didi von Deck

Saturday, February 6

1:30-3:30pm • Porter Square & Livestream

Yoga backbends cultivate suppleness and strength in the spine while supporting the movement of prana, or vital energy, throughout the body. Understanding the anatomy involved can deepen both our appreciation and experience of this challenging family of poses.

Through an exploration of the muscles, fascia, and joints involved in backbending, practitioners will learn to move with greater awareness, refine their technique, and approach these postures with greater confidence and care.

From Bridge Pose to dropbacks, this workshop will explore the essential elements of spinal extension, leg strength, and chest and shoulder mobility. Through thoughtful preparation and practice, you'll develop a deeper understanding of how the body moves in backbends, cultivating both the strength and openness that can enrich your practice on and off the mat.

Cost: $45

Please bring a yoga mat (rentals are available for $3 at the studio)

***For livestream participants: a Zoom invitation email will go out to pre-registered students 1 hour before the class. Please make sure we have the correct email address on file for you so you receive your invitation! Contact the studio at 617.566.9642 with any questions.***
