Teacher Development: Foundations - Bone & Spinal Health in Yoga with Masha Leuner
Saturday, January 24
1:30-3pm • Newton
Healthy bones are shaped as much by how we move as by how we breathe. In this experiential workshop, we explore the intelligence of the spine and the forces that support lifelong stability—balance, proprioception, posture, breath mechanics, and load-bearing strength.
Through grounding asana, thoughtful sequencing, and refined alignment principles, we’ll investigate how balance training prevents falls, how posture organizes force through the vertebrae, how breath supports spinal mobility, and how bone responds to muscular engagement. You’ll learn practical strategies for strengthening students’ bones safely, as well as recognizing and adapting movements contraindicated for osteoporosis, such as spinal flexion.
This session is geared toward yoga teachers and teacher trainees seeking to refine their ability to support students transitioning to the next life-stage, though dedicated practitioners are welcome. Expect accessible strength work, supported balance practices, wall and prop exploration, and breath-based awareness to illuminate the relationship between spine, structure, and subtle body.
Come away with clarity, confidence, and adaptable tools to weave into your teaching—helping students stand taller, move steadier, and age with resilience.
Cost: $40
Please bring a yoga mat (rentals are available for $3 at the studio)
