REBECCA KIRSHENBAUM

PILATES FACULTY

With a lifelong devotion to education, literature, and the study of movement, Rebecca brings uncommon depth and clarity to her work as a Classical Pilates instructor.

Rebecca’s professional path began in the classroom, teaching students from kindergarten through college. She first served as a high school English teacher in Baltimore and New York City before transitioning to elementary education, where she rediscovered her love of children’s literature. After moving to Boston, she earned a Master’s degree in Children’s Literature from Simmons University and later a Master of Fine Arts in Writing for Children and Young Adults from the Vermont College of Fine Arts. She went on to teach literacy and fourth and fifth grade in the Newton Public Schools before stepping away to focus on her writing and pursue comprehensive Pilates training. She continues to write middle grade and young adult fiction and picture books, working closely with her literary agent toward publication.

Pilates became central to Rebecca’s life following a significant back injury and major surgery in 2014. What began as a fitness practice evolved into an essential tool for recovery, strength, and long-term resilience. Through disciplined Classical training, she rebuilt stability and avoided spinal fusion by strengthening her core and posterior chain. Teaching Pilates became a natural extension of her lifelong commitment to education.

She completed her 500-hour comprehensive Classical training through The Pilates Center in Boulder, studying the full studio apparatus in the tradition of Joseph Pilates. Her teaching is rooted in the Classical order, blending technical precision with thoughtful imagery and attentive cueing. Rebecca creates classes that are structured yet responsive, challenging yet supportive, with a focus on control, breath, and purposeful movement.

Her hope is that students leave feeling stronger, clearer, and more connected—standing taller, breathing more deeply, and carrying renewed confidence into their lives beyond the studio.

Outside of Pilates, Rebecca remains devoted to storytelling and reading. She lives with her husband, two college-aged sons, their labradoodle Quimby, and two spirited guinea pigs, Debby Harry and Joan Jett—continuing to weave together intellect, creativity, and movement in both her personal and professional life.
