MICHAEL URSO
FITNESS FACULTY
Michael holds a B.A. in English Language and Literature from the University of Rhode Island and an M.A. in American Studies from the University of Massachusetts Boston, where his thesis, Surfing Towards Consciousness, explored movement as a pathway to awareness.
An educator at heart, he has taught writing and history at the college level, African American History within the Rhode Island prison system, and currently teaches 5th grade ESL in Boston Public Schools. His work reflects a sustained commitment to literacy, access, and embodied learning.
Michael came to mat Pilates through dance and athletics, drawn to its precision and intelligent approach to strength. The practice deepened his connection to breath, spinal articulation, and muscular awareness, supporting greater strength and ease as a dancer and athlete and in his daily movement. Certified in the STOTT PILATES® Mat method, his classes emphasize rhythm, control, and clear mind body awareness. Students can expect a practice that is focused yet fluid, building strength and stability while cultivating confidence in their movement.
Outside the studio, movement remains central to his life. He is a passionate ice dancer, Lindy Hopper, surfer, and inline skate dancer. He commutes by bicycle throughout Boston, embracing the city’s energy and drawing inspiration from its daily rhythm and vitality.
