Over fifteen years ago the kids yoga program began in Newton and some of our young yogis are now members! A life-long practice, beginning yoga at a young age provides you with a solid foundation of tools to help regulate stress and strengthen proprioception.

As kids return to class, they can deal with the stress and anxiety they may be feeling by taking a breath.

Ages 3-6 Kids Winter Series
Songs, movement activities and games help to bring the yoga asana practice to our youngest yogis, while stories and themes begin to introduce the seeds of yoga philosophy. Classes are dynamic and playful, with plenty of time for centering and relaxation at the end.

Ages 7-11 Kids Winter Series
In these classes children will be challenged with asana practice and games but will also learn how to balance difficulties by cultivating concentration and calm. These young yogis will explore yoga philosophy through lively discussions to begin to take the practice of yoga off the mat and into their daily lives. Breath work and time for relaxation teach these young yogis how to self-soothe and handle challenges in their daily lives.

Winter Series
Classes blend both challenging and restorative yoga postures, breath work, philosophy discussions and deep relaxation into each practice. Students will leave each class feeling nourished by time for rest and relaxation as they develop a tool kit of self-care techniques to self-soothe and calm at this critical and challenging age.

In most cases, our Kids & Teens classes will only be cancelled if Down Under is closed for a snow day. If schools have a snow day, but Down Under is open and running classes, we will most likely hold our regularly scheduled Kids & Teens classes and will email you to let you know that class is happening.

Regular weekly attendance in your enrolled series class is the ideal way to instill the invaluable lessons and benefits of yoga. However, we know things come up! Your child can make up any 4 classes they miss in their series by dropping in to any other class of an appropriate age group. After 4 classes, they cannot be made up. All make-ups expire at the beginning of the following series. For Fall and Winter series, this means your child must use any available make-ups within the series dates, as the following series begins immediately the next week.
