ESMERALDA BARREIRO
PILATES FACULTY
With an academic foundation in economics and finance, Esmeralda has spent much of her career working in research administration while cultivating a parallel passion for movement, wellness, and the study of the body.
Her relationship with Pilates began in her late teens, when she first discovered Mari Windsorβs Pilates DVDs while practicing in her parentsβ basement. What began as an appealing workout quickly revealed itself to be something far more transformative. As she navigated chronic illness in adulthood, Pilates became one of the few forms of movement that allowed her to remain active while honoring the needs of her body. Over time, the practice became both a source of strength and a pathway to deeper body awareness, ultimately inspiring her to pursue teacher training so she could help others discover the same sense of resilience, possibility, and connection within their own bodies.
Esmeralda completed her Pilates training through Balanced Body under the mentorship of Zayna Gold at Boston Body Pilates. While she has been teaching movement for over a decade, she began teaching Pilates in 2025, with a particular focus on one-on-one instruction for individuals who are new to the method or working through injuries. Her teaching draws from the classical Pilates repertoire while weaving in contemporary variations and thoughtful progressions. Her classes emphasize consistency and clarity, allowing students to build strength, deepen their understanding of the work, and develop confidence in their bodies over time. Though her approach often carries a restorative sensibility, the work itself remains precise, intentional, and quietly powerful. Esmeralda hopes students leave her classes feeling empowered, supported, and more connected to the simple joy of moving well.
In addition to her Pilates training, Esmeralda holds a 200-hour yoga teacher certification and is currently completing her 300-hour training, with plans to continue her education in yoga therapy as she guides students toward more mindful and sustainable ways of moving. She is also certified in pre- and post-natal Pilates and enjoys teaching yin and restorative yoga.
Outside the studio, Esmeralda shares her home with two rescue dogs and can often be found walking them around town. She has also performed stand-up comedy and brings a sense of warmth, humor, and lightness into both her teaching and everyday life.
