MARGARET DUNCAN
FITNESS FACULTY
Margaret is a psychiatrist specializing in women’s mental health, eating disorders, and psychoanalytic psychotherapy. Outside of her clinical work, she writes about the intersections of creativity and well-being on Substack and TikTok, exploring how ordinary life can be a canvas for intentional living and self-discovery.
Margaret’s journey with Pilates began at age 16 in her small Midwestern hometown, when she was finally old enough to attend group fitness classes. She was immediately drawn to movement—especially Pilates and strength training—as a practice that fosters embodied awareness, coordination, and a deeper connection to self.
Her teaching path started in medical school, where she became ACE-certified in group fitness under the mentorship of the university's head of programming. More recently, she earned her mat certification through Power Pilates. With years of thoughtful reflection on the role of movement in mental health and community, Margaret brings a rich, layered perspective to her teaching.
Margaret’s classes offer a flowing blend of classical Pilates infused with exercise science principles. Students can expect to work with and without weights, progressing through thoughtful muscle activation sequences grounded in breath, rhythm, and mindful transitions. Each class begins and ends with intention, guiding students to connect not only with their physical bodies but also with the deeper wisdom they carry.
She hopes students leave her classes feeling empowered—more in tune with their own bodies and better equipped with knowledge to support their strength and well-being. Influenced by her own transformative experience with physical therapy, Margaret sees movement as a form of education and self-knowledge. As she often reflects: “Our bodies are ourselves, and knowledge is power.”
Margaret is passionate about making Pilates accessible, immersive, and connected to everyday life. She’s particularly interested in the role of strength, mindfulness, and musicality in creating an engaging and holistic movement experience.
