The Science of Life: An Introduction to Ayurveda

The Science of Life: An Introduction to Ayurveda with Angie DiCiccio & Rebecca Donato

Saturday, January 27
5-7pm • Back Bay & Livestream

Known as Yoga’s “sister science,” Ayurveda is the world’s oldest system of health and healing that empowers us with principles and practices to maximize our existing health and prevent the onset of future “dis-ease.”

Ayurveda uses nature’s basic elements (space, air, fire, water and earth) as a foundational framework to understand everything we see in the material world including the design of our unique body/mind constitution.

You’ll learn how observing life through the lens of elemental qualities can lead to better lifestyle choices. This, combined with Ayurvedic practices, can improve your overall physical, emotional, and spiritual wellbeing. Our session will feature some ayurvedic teas, tips and tricks for daily practices, and a few other special take-aways to kick-start or strengthen your daily rituals.

Cost: $25

Yoga mats are available to rent in studio for $3

***For livestream participants: a Zoom invitation email will go out to pre-registered students 1 hour before the class. Please make sure we have the correct email address on file for you so you receive your invitation! Contact the studio at 617.566.9642 with any questions.***

World Ayurveda Day: Embrace the Fall Transition

World Ayurveda Day: Embrace the Fall Transition with Angie DiCiccio & Neena McIlwaine

Saturday, November 11
6-7:30pm

Porter Sq & Livestream

This is a collaborative event with Down Under School of Yoga & Cambridge Naturals.

Celebrate World Ayurveda day and optimize your health this Autumn through the wisdom of Ayurveda, the sister science to yoga and ancient healing system from India.

More than a system of treating illness, Ayurveda is a science of life, and wisdom comes from knowing your unique body and its tendencies. Join us for a grounding Ayurvedic workshop designed to support your transition into fall and harmonize Vata dosha, which tends to become more prominent during this time of year.

Vata Dosha is associated with qualities of air and space elements. Excess Vata in the body can lead to various health issues, including anxiety, insomnia, dry skin, digestive disturbances, and joint pain. During the fall when Vata is naturally aggravated, there is a higher risk of Vata-related imbalances if not addressed.

What to Expect:

1. Vata-Pacifying Yoga Flow led by Angie DiCiccio:

This class will focus on grounding and nourishing practices to calm the restless nature of Vata. You'll learn poses and breathing techniques that help you stay balanced, centered, and in harmony with the autumn season.

2. Discussion on Foods for Seasonal Transitions led by Neena McIlwaine:

Kitchari, a versatile and nourishing Ayurvedic dish, takes center stage in our workshop discussion. Discover how this simple, yet incredibly nutritious meal can support your Agni, digestive fire. We'll delve into the art of preparing meals that help to alleviate the common symptoms of imbalance during the Fall transition.

From seasonal self-care routines to Vata-pacifying recipes, you'll have the tools to navigate the autumn season with grace and well-being.

We've put together a kit with Cambridge Naturals to get you everything you need to begin incorporating these simple yet profound Ayurvedic remedies into your daily life. (Attendees will receive a coupon to purchase these bundles located just down the street at Cambridge Naturals in Porter Square).

This workshop is open to everyone, whether you're new to Ayurveda or a seasoned practitioner. It's perfect for anyone looking to enhance their well-being, gain a deeper understanding of seasonal transitions, and find balance in the midst of change.

Please bring a journal, writing utensil & a yoga mat (mats are available to rent in studio for $3)

Cost: Free

A Salutation Celebration: Summer Solstice & International Day of Yoga Workshop

A Salutation Celebration: Summer Solstice and International Day of Yoga Workshop with Angie DiCiccio & Abby Keene

Saturday, June 24

6-8:30pm • Porter Square

Join Angie & Abby to celebrate International Day of Yoga and Summer Solstice with a workshop honoring the practice of 108 Sun Salutations!

The workshop will begin with a grounding meditation, intention setting, and an introduction to varieties of sun salutations (including use of props) before kicking off the 108 Sun Salutation journey! This will be a flow at your pace practice and at any point should your body feel fulfilled you are welcome to transition to breathwork and meditation - as always this space is yours to experiment, build, pace, and grow. Whatever your practice looks like, it will be right for you.

Why 108? There are 108 Upanishads (Hindu spiritual texts), 108 names for Hindu deities, 108 sacred points on the body (marma points), 108 sacred sites in India, 108 beads in a mala, and even the distance between the sun and earth is 108 times the sun's diameter! The practice of 108 Sun Salutations is a traditional mark for change of seasons and we invite you to join for this first celebration as a community as we welcome the summer season and celebrate International Day of Yoga.

Required Props: yoga mat (rentals are available for $3 at the studio)

Cost: $40
