KATE BUSH

ASHTANGA FACULTY

A Professor of Classics at Wellesley College by day, Kate has balanced her intellectual pursuits with a daily asana practice since 2007. She is devoted to yoga not only for the solace it can bring in troubled times, but also as a proven path to live life with more freedom and joy.

She first began practicing Ashtanga in 2014 with Kate O’Donnell and Rich Ray, and she continues to work with Rich as she develops her practice. In the Mysore room, she was immediately drawn to the rigor of daily practice and the direct communication of hands-on teaching. She first learned assisting techniques with Masaaki Okamura, and then studied Ashtanga assisting under the guidance of Rich Ray, Kate O’Donnell, Didi Von Deck, and Andrew Bauer, working extensively with Rich in Brookline from 2018-2020. In 2022-3 she taught in the Mysore room as part of the Boston Ashtanga Collective. She completed a 200 hour RYT teacher training in 2012, and has been working with Dennis Young, studying yoga off the mat since 2013, cultivating a meditation practice that is aligned with the yoga sutras, participating in a sustained conversation about how to live in accord with the principles of yoga, and exploring the potential of yoga as an energy practice. She was certified in Reiki 1 and 2 by Clara Diebold in 2019, and taught an array of hot vinyasa classes at Firefly Yoga between 2013 and 2020.
