CARIN ALLEN

IYENGAR FACULTY

Carin Allen began practicing yoga in 1997 when her mind was exhausted from four years of college and she felt totally disconnected from her body.

While traveling abroad, Carin met a friend whose mother was an Iyengar yoga teacher.

One afternoon on a lookout outside a small village in Western Nepal, her friend taught Carin a few yoga poses. Carin recalls doing Vrksasana (tree pose), looking out at the Himalayas, and feeling her feet. โ€œIt felt so good to connect with my body and with the earth at the same time, and it was exactly what my mind needed as well: to let go.โ€

Carin began studying Iyengar yoga in 1998 with Patricia Walden and was immediately drawn to its precision and eloquence as a pathway to physical well-being and spiritual growth. Over the past decade, Carin has continued her training, serving as a teaching assistant to Patricia in weekly classes, completing a two-year teacher training program in June 2007, and delving into practice. In 2009, Carin became a Certified Iyengar Instructor.

Carinโ€™s interests lie in yogaโ€™s potential to connect us with ourselvesโ€“to deepen our understanding of our own nature and to uncover our true potential. She brings a thoughtful manner, precise instruction, and meaningful sequencing to each class. Her attention to every individual makes her classes warm, inclusive, and accessible to people of all ages and abilities.

When sheโ€™s not teaching yoga, Carin is chasing after her toddler Anna and practicing equanimity and balance amidst chaos.
